Bali, the island of the gods, has abundant art & cultural festivals along the year. The biggest annual art festival is Bali Art Festival or known as Pekan Kesenian Bali. This year is the 37th event; held on 13th June – 11th July 2015 and taken place in Bali Art Centre, Denpasar. Jagaditha is the theme of the event which carries purposeful meaning of strengthening the welfare of society. Its philosophy is taken from historic aspects & inspiration of folk art aesthetics forming Balinese arts as it is today. The value is illustrated in series of parades, exhibitions, workshops, seminars and competitions.

The event highlights fascinating features such as dance dramas (Sendratari), Bali modern theatre, photography workshops, culinary festivals, movie screening and musical performances. Exciting competitions such as documentary movie competitions, handicraft competitions, writing, painting, and photography competitions are held fully in a month. Parades and processions include the Gong Kebyar, Topeng Panca, Nglawang, Dramatari Arja, Joged Bumbung, Semara pagulingan & Drama Gong Parade. The event involved 150,000 artists from all regencies in Bali, from other province & nation representatives, to be called like Borneo, Sumatra, East Nusa Tenggara, West Java and Timor Leste, also art institute & education board.
Since most of the art and cultural activities in Bali come from religious devotion, artists will attempt to create their best works. Through its 37 years history, the Bali Arts Festival has been a media to rediscover and preserve the unique and celebrated arts and culture of Bali, at the same time increase its people’s welfare. Through this special annual event, it is hoped that the true authentic wisdom and philosophy of the people of Bali will not only be preserved but will also grow and spread to other parts of the world.
