Purnama Ceremony
Thrusday - Dec 4, 2014
Full moon or well-known as Purnama is one of special days for ceremonies and festivities. Splendid ceremonies are held at temples all over the island. It is held in full moon eve or what is called as Sukla Paksa day which happen once in 15 days every month. The ceremony is to worship Hyang Candra (one of the gods) who is doing yoga or contemplating in full moon eve to ask mercy of sins to Hyang Widhi (The Almighty God).
Balinese believe that Purnama is a propitious day when Gods descend to the earth and give their blessing. In the ceremony, they pray to give thanks for all blessing they are granted, and ask for merci to Sang Hyang Widhi through Hyang Candra to be purified as they were just born. Pure life will lead people to have good thoughts, good words, and good deeds that will be rewarded with good karma.
The Balinese themselves are then blessed by performing various rituals using holy water, incense smoke, petals and rice grains.
